What
IS Butch Whacks and the Glass Packs?
Simply a one-of-a-kind thirteen member entertainment phenomenon that has
combined the best of vintage rock 'n roll with hilarious comedy sketchwork
for over thirty years!
Started as a college-age diversion, Butch Whacks and the Glass Packs
evolved into both a solid nightclub attraction as well as a fitting
complement to such certified concert "draws" as The Doobie Brothers,
Pointer Sisters and Boz Scaggs.
After Butch Whacks' initial heyday in the '70s,the band, founded by now-attorney
Jerry Murphy and his longtime successful writer-producer brother
Gary, and anchored performance-wise by actor-comedian BOB SARLATTE,
collectively put away the gags and guitars in 1976--not to surface
again until 1983.
It was then that The Glass packs embarked on a series of annual "Farewell
Performances" that have been instant sellouts for twenty years, originally
at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, and now at the retro-hip
Bimbo's on Columbus Avenue in historic North Beach.
Coupled with SARLATTE's upfront skills as not only a singer, but also as a
hybrid comedian/emcee and sometimes auctioneer (!), in addition
to the reunion shows, Butch Whacks has lent its collective talent
to a myriad of special events, corporate and charity functions.
This combined package has been an unabashed hit at this year's
"Hands Across the Valley" at Rutherford's Niebaum-Coppola Winery
as well as for shows for San Mateo County's St. Vincent de Paul
Society among many others.
Whether utilized as a top flight show band or simply as a purveyor of
danceable pop from the '50's and '60s, Butch Whacks and the Glass Packs is
a guaranteed crowd pleaser!
